a little stressed out

Let me tell you, I am not happy right now.  The predicament we're in just flat out sucks.  Like I said a few entries back, Little Guy's b'day is coming up...next Saturday, to be exact.  We're considering having it at Chuck E. Cheese--not too bad pricewise, since there's only 10 kids in his class.  Of course, like with everything else in my life, there's a catch.  Three catches, actually.

First off, the car's still at the garage.  They couldn't figure out what was wrong with it...but they went and changed the hoses, thermostat, etc...you know, the "cheap stuff".  It's done, but I don't have the $180 to pay for it.  Second, once the car is back in our possession, we have to drive it to Chuck E. Cheese, which is out of the city.  That I'm not too worried about, but still.

Last but not least, at this point, I don't have Saturday off.  I requested it off weeks ago, but no go.  I'm trying to get someone to switch with me, but who knows.  I can't just call off because if I do, I won't have a job (I'm on a 6-month probation period, and that's up on October 11th.  After Bum's incident, I went in late.  They counted that against me, and said if I'm more than 5 minutes late until said probation is up, I'm canned.).  GRRRRRRR.

Why can't something go right for me once?  Can't someone just accidently leave $10,000 on my doorstep?  Or keys to a new car?  Oh well, I guess I can dream.

til next time...=)

ps--Krissy, the thing with the bus is that around here they don't go very far (like where the jobs are)...and the schedules suck.

cool job

Sunday, our landlord called us and said he was on his way here, and he had to tell us something.  He lives about 1 1/2 hours away, so whatever he had to tell must have been important...we were thinking the worst.  Something like, what the hell did we do now???  Is he kicking us out?  Is he selling the house?  All these negative things were going through our heads...mind you, I'm half asleep as it is (it was 9am).  When he finally came, he told us that the girl downstairs next door (the house is a duplex with 2 apartments on each side) was moving out.  Ok, so?  He came to ask us if we can rent the apartment out for him.  Meaning, putting our number in the ad, showing the house to potential renters, etc.  And he'll pay us $100 when it's rented.  How cool is that--getting to pick our neighbors AND getting paid for it?!?  Awesome.

So today we started getting calls for it.  We actually wanted to know what we were showing these people, so we went down there and checked it out.  The girl isn't completely out--she still has some cleaning to do.  When we went into the kitchen, we found food on the counter, and this:

Can we say REDNECK FRIDGE???

You're probably thinking, ok, that belonged to the girl...but no!  That belongs to the owner.  He called today, and when I asked him about it, he said it was staying.  Are you kidding me???  IT'S GOT A DOORKNOB ON IT.  He told me if the people want it replaced, he'll do that, since appliances are included.  You bet your ass they'll want a new one.  lol

So that's my afternoon.

well, at least i'm getting some exercise

The car is really starting to piss me off.  That and this is not the time I can afford to put it in the shop.  But that's exactly what I ended up doing yesterday, after putting it off all week.  Last week on the way to Bum's party, I noticed the temperature gauge shooting up.  Way up.  Joey noticed me looking at it, and wasn't happy.  When we got to the hotel, he saw the antifreeze on the ground under the piece of shit.  Dammit.

So now I've had to walk home from work this past week, but it's a nice walk.  It's quiet (11pm usually is), and it's not really strenuous...the only real hill is a block away from the house.  Who knows how long I'm going to have to do this...I have really no idea how I'm going to pay for it to get fixed, especially if it's not something minor.  And with Little Guy's party coming up, that makes it even harder.  Who knows.

What sucks even more is in order for Joey to get a job, the car has to be fixed.  But with him not working, it's not easy to pay for it to get fixed.  It's like a catch-22.  As far as him working on it, that's out of the question.  He can do basic things, like oil changes, but when it comes to stuff like that, forget it.  He's a chef, not a mechanic.  Oh well.

til next time...=)

ps...Like the new font?  I have John over at By The Way to thank for showing me how to change it.  Thanks!! =)

what do you mean i can't bring the house?

Weekend Assignment #78: You are preparing to evacuate your house due to an upcoming threat. You have already packed up all your essential items, people and pets. You have room for three non-essential items. What are they?

Remember, you already have your essentials: food, medicines, water, clothes, and all the people (including the furry ones) who live with you. "Non-essentials" are things you don't need but would like to have, and can include momentos, books, jewelry, objects of sentimental value, and so on and so forth.

Extra Credit: Have you ever been evacuated?

1.  My Snuggle bear--I think that's the most sentimental thing I own.  I'd throw it in the bag with the afghan my mom made me, so wouldn't that count as one thing?  You'd only have to carry one thing...

2.  A box full of photo albums.  I'd throw the picture CD in there too.

3.  The Gamecube and games.  Little Guy would go nuts without it.

For the extra credit, I've never been evacuated from anywhere.  Where I live, nothing like that happens.  The most we get is some snow.

til next time...=)

PS--One of my journal buddies, Brandi from Something New, is going to be affected by this thing called a hurricane...she lives in Port Arthur, TX.  As far as I know, she got out before the storm hit, but hopefully she'll have a home to go back to...drop her a line to let her know we're pulling for her. =D

it's what's for dinner

This is for you, Krissy, since you asked...

This is what I made for dinner today...piggies, aka pigs in the blanket, aka golabki (Polish), aka halupki (Slovak), aka stuffed cabbage.  For those of you who have no clue, it's a dish that consists of hamburger and rice mixture wrapped up and a cabbage leaf, then cooked in a tomato sauce.  My mom showed me how to make them when I was about 14, and I try my damnest to carry on the tradition.  =)

I had to make a double batch today, because the last time I made them, they lasted only one day.  And that was with giving some the the mother-in-law.  Hmm...something I make that she actually likes...is that possible??? lol.  Anyway, they turned out good--so far I ate about 8 of them.  Yummmm.

til next time...=)

bum's par-tay

Cool cake, huh?  The best part is the tiara is wearable...she still has it.  The party was a hit, to my surprise.  A whopping 8 of her classmates showed up, but that was cool--not too many kids to watch then.  I ended up going in, since someone had to be in there with Little Guy.  They had a blast, and all were very polite.  When it came time to eat, they got right out of the pool.  They pigged out on pizza then back into the pool...until it was time to sing.  Then back in...then present time.  She made out pretty good--lots of Barbie, lots of Bratz, a Motley Crue CD (from us, of course), a blanket/packpack, and a PJ set.  Oh yeah, and $87.  After that, they wanted to go back in again, but by that time, it was time to go home.   It was awesome.

After the party, we went home...one of my nieces came and stayed the night.  Nikki said it best herself--she's a 10-year-old trapped in a 16-year-old's body.  She was playing with the kids until about 11, when they finally went to bed.  It was like the kids weren't even here--no fighting, no whining, etc.  That and she got all the Barbies and Bratz stuff out of the plastic--no hassle for me!! LOL.

So that was her b'day party...one down, one to go.  Little Guy's is in 3 weeks.

til next time...=)

drowning...?

At this point, I'm wondering if the pool party was a good idea.  I sent out the invitations on Monday (all 26 of them), and so far only 4 kids are coming.  Actually, 2 called and RSVP'ed, and 2 more are saying they're coming...just waiting for the word from their parents.  I know I clearly wrote the phone number on the card...what the hell??  Did they not bring them home?  Maybe it's because she's new at the school...maybe they can't swim (or don't want to)...I have no idea.  I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake...the price I paid ($185) is for up to 25 kids, and that's not including food, cake, etc.  Am I nuts???  I dunno...I'm trying to keep in mind that this is the party SHE wanted...as I'm kicking myself in the butt...

Anyway, today is Employee Appreciation Day at work--food, games, other good stuff.  Too bad I'm OFF today.  You know, I just might go down there just to take advantage of the free food...sausage and peppers.  Mmmmmmmm.

Also, Joey's sick again.  This cold went from Papa to Little Guy to Bum to Joey.  Hopefully he's feeling a little better for tomorrow for the party.  After all, Dad can't be sick...lol.

happy b-day bum

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday dear Alexis

Happy birthday to you

Yesterday was Bum's 8th birthday...and this is what she brought to school to share with her class.  These were a team effort--Joey made them while I was at work, and when I came home I iced them.  So that was cool.  I was on a split shift today, so during my looooong (3 1/2 hours) lunch, I picked up an ice cream cake for the family to celebrate her special day.  The grandparents came too, and we all sang happy happy to her.

The real fun, however, is going to be on Friday.  We have a pool party at the local hotel planned, and we invited her classmates too.  I'll have lots of pics for that.

the wedding day

Well, I'll try to make this one short and sweet.  Joey's brother got married this past Saturday...something we never saw coming.  He's one of those guys that doesn't (or at least didn't) like to commit to one person.  Anyway, the ceremony was small and intimate.  Later in the afternoon, the reception was cool...the kids had fun, and so did everyone else.  There was an open bar, and Joey's other brother (the opinionated one) was bartending.  That was fun--the whole night he kept making drinks for me, since he knew I wasn't driving home.  And as mentioned in the earlier entry, I did get drunk...something I haven't done in over 3 years.  So you know I was taking advantage of that.

When we got home, we sat and watched some TV.  About an hour later, we got a phone call from his mom saying the best man had passed away.  What happened was, the bride and groom had drove him home, sat with him for a while, then left when he said he was going to bed.  They tried to call his house when they got home, but no answer.  So bride and groom drove back to best man's house, and found him on the basement floor.  We guess he was going down there to fix a pipe, but was so drunk, that he fell and sustained fatal injuries.  Everyone feels bad--the bride and groom, the bartender, etc.  No one knew something like this was going to happen.  I dunno.

So that's the wedding day.

overwhelmed...

I have sooooooooo much to write about, but sooooo little time to do so.  I will be updating within the next few days, so bear with me.  I still have to talk about the wedding, the reception (and what happened after it), and a few more entries.  But right now, I have to go and make cupcakes for Bum's in-school birthday party.  Talk more later!!

seven things...

I've been officially tagged by Krissy to do this...

7 things I want to do before I die:

1.  Watch my children grow up to be responsible, self-sufficient adults.

2.  See my grandchildren.

3.  Take a vacation to someplace warm...the furthest south I've been is DC.

4.  Go to a familly reunion for my dad's side of the family.  Haven't gone since he passed on.

5.  Get a college degree in something...just don't know what yet.

6.  Own a house.  My whole life, either my parents or I have rented.

7.  Go to the Sanrio Store.  That's not a stretch, but so far, I haven't been there.

7 things I can do:

1.  Start a conversation with just about anyone.

2.  Make piggies just like my mom used to make.  Mmmmm.

3.  Be a human road map.  I can't get lost.  Even if I tried.

4.  Be a friend.

5.  Be goofy...I'm always trying to make people laugh.

6.  Take cool pictures (I think).

7.  Sound like a phone sex operator.  No, really...I've been told that by people I talk to on the phone at my job.  They say I sound cute...if they only saw me...LOL.

7 things I can't do:

1.  Crochet.  My mom tried to teach me, but it just didn't work.

2.  Speak a foreign language, although I would like to learn.

3.  Ice skate.

4.  Back handsprings.  I just can't.

5.  Get the nerve up to go and see my aunt, who is senile (I think).  I just can't stand to see her that way.

6.  Tell people off...it's just not in me.

7.  Have a decent relationship with my sister.  When we get all chummy chummy, eventually something happens and we don't speak for a year or two.  I dunno.

7 things that attract me to the opposite sex:

1.  Good looks...DUH.

2.  Personality.

3.  Awesome sense of humor.

4.  Cool mom...wait, Joey's mom drives me nuts!!  But you know, she's ok at times.

5.  Cool dad too...c'mon--Joey's dad is called "the boob man" at work.  'Nuff said.

6.  Good with kids.

7.  A good job wouldn't be bad.

7 things I say most often:

1. I'm sorry...(all the time at work...I swear I'm the sorriest person you ever met)

2.  Cool.

3.  What did you do? (to the kids)

4.  Yeah, right?

5.  I don't wanna go to work today.

6.  You're grounded.

7.  Stupified! (referring to the dog)

7 celebrity crushes:

1.  Colin Farrell

2.  Matthew McConaughey

3.  Heath Ledger (aw c'mon...you gotta love the accent!)

4.  Brad Pitt (who doesn't)

5.  Keanu Reeves

6.  Michael Vartan

7.  Hugh Jackman

7 people I would like to see do this:

Actually, I can't think of anyone...everyone I know has already done this!!

today

As I'm typing this, I am currently INTOXICATED.  Seriously.  I just got home from Joey's brother's wedding, and I didn't have to drive home.  So that should give an indication of what I did today.  Just thought I'd let you know about that...hee hee hee.

saturday six #73

Here's my answers to this week's Saturday Six!

1. What is the price of gas at your regular station?  Have you made any changes to holiday plans because of gas prices?

That's what they were yesterday.  When I was getting my measely (sp?) $10 worthfor the week, I took this pic.  As far as my plans, I had no plans.  I had to work yesterday, today I'm just hanging around the house, and tomorrow we're going to the in-laws for food.  Other than that, I can't afford to go anywhere...lol.

2. Some people feel that the song that was #1 when they were born somehow helps shape their life.  Which song was #1 when you were born, according to this site.  Do you think it relates to your life at all?

The #1 song on June 12, 1977 was "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac, and I love this song!  As far as relating to me, I dunno.

3. Take this quiz:  Which child does it say you are?  Is it correct about your birth order?

You Are Likely an Only Child

At your darkest moments, you feel frustrated. At work and school, you do best when you're organizing. When you love someone, you tend to worry about them. In friendship, you are emotional and sympathetic. Your ideal careers are: radio announcer, finance, teaching, ministry, and management. You will leave your mark on the world with organizational leadership, maybe as the author of self-help books.

As far as that goes, that's kind of the truth.  I'm the baby of the family of 3 children, but with 11 years separating me and my sister (that and she was put in a foster home when she was 12), I guess you can say I was an only child...

4. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #61 from De:  What animal do you equate your spirit with and why?  (This site may be helpful.)

I didn't read them all, but I think the dragonfly is more like me, since I have compassion to help others (sometimes too much).

5. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #62 from PsychfunIf you had to describe your personality as a nut (as in the eatable kind) what nut would you be and why?

I have no idea.

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #63 from Chris:   Who knows the "real" you better - - your real world friends or your Jland readers?

Actually, my J-Land readers know me better, since I post here more than I get to talk to my real friends.  I know...I have no life.

katrina assignment

Weekend Assignment #75: Write a note to those who are suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Take a picture of yourself and the note. Post it online where everyone can see. Write on a whiteboard, a piece of paper, a notepad, whatever.

I haven't written anything on Katrina, only because I can't put what I'm feeling into words.  The devastation, the loss of life, the chaos, the feeling of not knowing what's going to happen tomorrow...it's heartbreaking.  I'm happy I don't live there, but I would gladly take their place if it meant that someone wouldn't have to go through that.  My prayers are definitely with anyone who is dealing with this crisis, and I'm going to try and do anything I can to help.

ps...John--you can definitely use this in your collection.

Update:  Front page on AOL Journals!?!  I'm speechless.
