a jolly happy soul

Which holiday cartoon character are you? (Saw this on Barbara's journal)

Frosty the Snowman

If anyone knows how to seize the moment and have a good time, it's you. Like Frosty, you really get into the happy, joyful mood of the holiday season. But you're not just a frivolous party person; your loved ones are your top priority, and you will do anything to help out a friend.

where are you?

I want to know!  So sign my map!

christmas is in the air

It's officially Christmastime in our house--the tree is up.  Joey put it up this afternoon, and he and the kids decorated it.  On the tv, we had the Christmas music channel on.  And I finally finished the lights outside.  At least as much as I could do for now, anyway--we're waiting on one more set of lights from Joey's mom.  As soon as I get pics, I'll be sure to post them.  Now all we need is some snow, and it will be nice.  From what I've been hearing, we're hopefully getting some next week.  I'm keeping my hopes up...

jumping for joy

The KKMom house is happy this morning--we were informed yesterday that the girl downstairs is MOVING!  In 2 weeks!  She's only moving across the street (to a house that's being renovated), but that's far enough.  She came up here yesterday, saying she tried to call the landlord, but his phone was disconnected (I called his number this morning--it was fine...she must've got the number screwed up).  She was calling to tell him she was moving, and to ask if a relative can have her apartment.  In a way, I hope she doesn't get a hold of him... ;-)

The house she got would actually be good for us...it's 3 bedrooms, and all the utilities are included.  But that's ok--we're still looking for something else...eventually this one is going to be too small for us.  Bum seriously needs her own room.  The house is a duplex, but when I mentioned about the other side, Joey immediately said NO.  He said he wants to get rid of the music, not follow it...lol.

In other news, the kids' school pics are in...they came out good!  I want to get them scanned so I can show them off, but I don't know where to take them--they're professional pics, and Walgreens won't touch them.  Any ideas, let me know.

another pic

When I was making my pic with the South Park Studio, the kids walked in and liked what they saw.  The first thing they said was, "That looks like South Park".  Duh.  But coming from them, and the fact of them only seeing about 10 minutes of one episode (and cracking the hell up)...well, it's a little surprising.  They immediately wanted me to make one for them too.  I ended up doing everyone.  See?

Hope you like.  They did.  You can probably tell who's who...

friday 5'er

From Robin...you should join in too!  I know I'm doing it late, but you know what they say...

1. Do you already have your Christmas tree up? If so when did you put it up? If not when will you put it up?

Not yet...haven't got around to it yet, but probably within the next couple weeks.

2. Do you have any particular theme when it comes to decorating your tree? Maybe you do all Disney ornaments? Only blue lights?  Tell us how you decorate your tree. Kudos if you have a picture and post it.

Last year we did...well, look for yourself.

We'll probably do something similar to that this year too.

3.  What is your all time favorite ornament? Only one.  Kudos again if you have a picture and post it.

I think they're the ones Bum made at school.  One is the candy cane seen in the pic (with the tag stuck to it).  Soon Home Fry will be bringing some home too.

4. How many stockings do you hang and are any of them for pets? And...where do you hang them?  (Not everyone has a fireplace)

Last year, we didn't put the stockings up, because we couldn't figure where the hell to stick them.  Since we're in a new house this year, who knows.

5.  Tell us about one of your Christmas traditions.

I don't think we really have any yet...that I can think of, anyway.  I do, however, remember one my mom and stepmom had when I was a kid--putting the tree up on Christmas Eve, saying that Santa brought it with him.  Of course, I walked in one night...there went that idea...lol.

so many questions assignment

Weekend Assignment #87: Answer one or more of the following musical conundrums:

1. Who let the dogs out?
2. Why do fools fall in love?
3. If birds can fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why, can't I?
4. Do you hear what I hear?
5. How do you solve a problem like Maria?
6. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
7. Listen, do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell?
8. How long has this been going on?
9. I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? (Alternately: Why does it always rain on me?)
10. Does anybody really know what time it is?

(Yes, you can have silly answers. In fact, I encourage them!)

Extra Credit: Pose your own musical question.

This is an odd assignment, and I was thinking about it all day at work.  Lemme see...these are all good questions, and they all (at least, the ones I know) come from good songs, too.  (Me and my friends used to have some different lyrics to #6, but I can't type them here.)  I'm listening to the Chicago song (#10) as I type this.  I would've used that one, but I couldn't top John's answer..(:-p).  So now comes the hard part--which one to choose?

Ok...here it is...this is kind of dorky, but YES, I want to know a secret, and I promise not to tell.  (#7)

Extra Credit--actually, this was easier than the original question.

"Does Your Mother Know?"--Abba

"What Would You Say?"--Dave Matthews Band

gotta keep warm

DAMN, it's cold outside!  It's only 16 degrees out there, and there's still snow on the ground from this afternoon.  My eyebrows started to freeze while I was out there having a smoke!  The sidewalk in front of the house is like ice, so I can just imagine what the roads are like...lol.  I'm in a way glad we don't have the car--don't have to worry about driving in the snow.  So much for the Christmas lights going up this week...we're going to wait until next week when they're saying the temps will be in the 50s.  I refuse to freeze my butt off just to put up decorations...that's ok--they can wait.

gobble gobble gobble

We here at the KKMom home had a good holiday, with its usual flaws.  This morning, we woke up to find that it did indeed snow, but basically a dusting.  It was gone by about 11am.  The kids were nuts, as usual.  The question of the morning was, "When are we going to Grandma's house?"  They were antsy to go, only because they think Grandma's the boss, so they can get away with everything, even if we're there.  NOT.  We took care of that idea before we left--"if you start acting up there, we'll walk home".  It was cold and snowing--no way they wanted to do that.

We went up there around 1pm, via Joey's brother.  When we got there, a few of his cousins were there too, including one I really can't stand...she's a 15-year-old loudmouth twit (Katie) who (at least I think so) likes to piss people off.  Almost the whole time, she was complaining that she didn't want to be there, but she had no way of getting home.  If it wasn't that, she was annoying the kids (sometimes hurting them, but I put a stop to that), bitching to her mom (who just sat there and took it), or when her twin sister (Kerri) came (she doesn't live with them, for good reason), insulting her every chance she got.  Kerri's cool in my book...she's kinda like me--smart, and has a sis that's jealous of her.  But she blows her Katie off...just like I (kinda) blow my sis off anymore.  I didn't even call my sis today, but that's another story.

Anyhoo, the food was good, it snowed some more (it looked like a blizzard at times), and we ended up staying for a few hours until his brother brought us back home...the kids stayed for the extended weekend.  We brought a whole bunch of leftovers--including a whole pumpkin pie and cool whip.  So now we have the house to ourselves...you can imagine what we did--if I said it here, I'd probably be TOS'ed, knowing my luck.  Hee hee hee.  Too bad I have to work the rest of the weekend...lol.

she has one too

I was looking for a Hello Kitty icon for my AIM, and you know what I found?  Hello Kitty has a blog...too bad it's in Japanese.  I went to Google's website, and had it translated...it doesn't make much sense.  Maybe if I was Japanese...lol.

brrrr and grrrr

Frostbite sucks.  Or at least I can imagine it does.  I was standing outside for only about 10 minutes and my nose and fingers are numb.  That's how cold it is outside...it's 29 degrees, but it feels so much colder.  It was 19 when I woke up this morning (7am).  My ears were hurting when I took Bum to school this morning.  One word--BRRRRR.  They're calling for 1-3" of snow for tomorrow.  I want summer back.

Now we're trying to figure out how we're going to put the outdoor Christmas lights this year...new house, new configuration.  And it's not easy--we're working with less than half the space we had last year (we had a whole duplex porch then).  You know it's a pain in the butt when I have to draw it out on paper before anything gets hung...lol.  Grrrr.

I didn't tell you about yesterday--Bum was blown over--literally.  Joey told me about the strong winds blowing through yesterday, and when they were walking home from school, Bum got knocked over by the wind.  She got a little scratch on her leg (she was wearing a skirt), but I think her ego was hurt more, since there were classmates standing around when it happened.  lmao.

By the way, everything went good at the feast today.  Joey had to help me carry the food over, then he left.  It was so cute, with them in their little pilgrim costumes made out of paper bags and construction paper.  I got to wear a hat, too...when I get the pics, I'll be sure to post them.  Of course, there were compliments about the food, especially the tatos and turkey...I told Joey when we got home.  He had a BIG smile on his face.  He said he should have stayed.

I added to the "about me" part of my sidebar...yup--I got my award graphic today!!!  WOOHOO!  Taking into consideration the turmoil turning J-land upside down, I'm surprised I got it.  But I did...yay!

turkey, tatos, and school...oh my

It smells like turkey in here...Joey cooked one last night for Home Fry's class thing today.  He's making mashed potatoes from scratch now...YUM.  Hopefully SOME of them will make it to the school...lol.  I'll probably be posting later to let you know how that went.  I know some of you won't be on tomorrow, so I just thought I'd stop in before I got ready to say...

10 things i'm thankful for

Got this idea from Liza...she wanted to know!

1.  Joey.  You know, he's taught me a lot in the 9 years we've been together.  How to be strong, how to speak up for myself, and that I'm cute no matter what.

2.  My Bum.  She might make me mad sometimes (ok, most of the time), but she's one of a kind--I wouldn't trade her for the world.  And

3.  My Home Fry.  I've said it before and I'll say it again--he's my sanity.

4.  My job.  As much as I hate it, it keeps a roof over our heads, pays the bills and puts food on the table.  And I made some awesome friends there too.

5.  My mom.  If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here...duh.  Also, I wouldn't be the way I am...goofy, honest, and cool.

6.  My mother-in-law.  She's a bitch sometimes, and she puts Joey down like you wouldn't believe, but you know what--she is like a saint when it come to the kids...something my family really can't do (my choice).

7.   My computer.  If it weren't for this, I think I would go nuts.  It keeps me in touch with friends, and keeps me informed with what's going on in the world (I don't watch the news...doesn't work within my schedule).

8.  Our health.  Right now it's not that good with this cold and all, but overall we're in good standing.

9.  My friends.  Both online and offline ones.  I can talk to them about almost anything, and they'll offer advice, or just lend an ear.

10.  My journal.  I can whine, vent, or just talk about something, and it's always here.  And because of it, I got to meet some new and awesome people!

til next time...=)

where's my cheese...

I'm whining today...bear with me.

I think I jinxed myself a while back, saying I very rarely get sick.  Now I'm sick for the second time since I said that--about a month ago.  I've got something like a chest cold, and it's draining all the energy out of me.  This sucks.  I hate being sick and weak.  I think I got it from work this time...stupid job with no windows and recycled air.  One more reason I can't stand my job.

My jaw's hurting me today too...must've been grinding in my sleep last night.  I hate that...that's why my teeth are in the condition they're in...c'mon--one time, I was eating a soft breadstick, and part of one broke off.  Pathetic, but true.

To top it all off, the girl downstairs has the music up again...I can feel my butt vibrating from the bass.  Who cares...she'll (hopefully) be moving soon.  She's just waiting for the local housing authority to approve her application.  That's if she doesn't get evicted first (which I doubt will happen), or if her hubby doesn't make her move (when he gets out of jail in December), due to the problems with the house.  I'm looking forward to him coming home...lmao.

Such is the drama that is my life.  I'm done rambling for now...

my college year...pt. 1

Flashback time! I know this is going to end up being more than one entry...

I knew what I wanted to go to school for since I was 15, when I had a summer job doing landscaping.  I applied at a few colleges, but I really wanted to go to Penn State. When I found out I was accepted at PSU, I was soooo excited.  My mom even called me at school to tell me.  My major was Landscape Architecture, something that wasn't available at the local campus, so I had to go to the main campus for my freshman year.  I was never really away from home like that before, so that part of it came with mixed emotions, especially since I didn't have a car to come home on the weekends.  At one point, I even said I didn't want to go...maybe take a year off.  But Mom talked me into going, and there I went.  Over the summer, I talked to my future roommate on the phone, and she seemed cool.  Her name was Jessika (no name protecting here), and she was from New Jersey.  I forgot what she was going for...probably something along the lines of film...she was in some plays at her high school.  But anyhoo, finally the day came for me to go...

Let me tell you, it was nothing like I imagined...I, for the most part, hated it.  Jessika turned out to be a total stuck-up bitch, who I could not even stand to share a room with.  Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of people I absolutely loved down there...she was not one of them.  When she went home for a weekend, she came back and accused me of stealing stuff from her--police were involved and all.  I came close to breaking down and everything...

ok...time for a break...

my college year...pt. 2

Where was I...oh yeah--breakdown.  This is where Vet comes in...well, kinda...

(I know, I know what you're thinking--I looked like a real dork back then.  Keep in mind, this pic was taken at about 2am.)

This was me and my friend Yvette, aka Vet, during our first weekend there.  Before this was taken, we virtually didn't know each other.  We were both freshman, and were down the hall from each other in the dorm.  She's from Pittsburgh (you'll see more of that later...).  We immediately clicked.  She made it fun...and not so bad to be away from home.

Back to the bitch, the burglary, and the breakdown...when this all happened, I was freaking out.  I was under the impression that I was getting in trouble for something I didn't do.  Vet was like my hero--she stood up for me, saying I was with her that weekend (well, I was...), and that I didn't steal whatever was missing.  She was so cool...defending me, screaming at Jessika, consoling me.  I think the only other thing that made me feel better was my mom on the other end of the phone line that day.  Not too long after that, Vet became my roommate.  Yay!

more in part 3...

til next time...=)

my college year...pt. 3

Wow...we're only up to Thanksgiving...this is going to be longer than I thought...lol

After the whole roommate switch, things got soooo much easier for me.  Our room was soooo decorated for Christmas...people came to our room just to check it out!  I started going home to Vet's house on the weekends, and man, was it fun!  We'd hop a ride with one of our dorm mates, Laurel, who went home to Aliquippa every weekend--she was married, had to stay on campus, went home on the weekend to be with him.  So that was cool.

The first weekend I went, I played matchmaker.  You see, Vet worked at Subway, and this guy, Steve, used to come in all the time.  She liked him, but wouldn't ask him out...so when I went there, I did it for her.  And he said yup.  So Vet, Steve, me, and Steve's friend Kevin spent the night out, drinking and what-not.  Eventually me and Kevin hooked up...=)  After that, I went out there almost every weekend.

Back at school, things were going ok, I guess.  Finals went alright, then it was Christmas Break.  I had to take the bus home...4 hours on a bus is NOT my idea of fun.  But with all the credit cards I had at the time (you know, they bombard you with them in college), I had a car waiting at home for me.  I bought it via my Discover card via Western Union.  I wired the money to my sis, and she paid for the car.  Something else that was waiting for me when I got home...my mom was in the hospital--again.  This time for pancreatitis, whatever that is.  So after sis picked me up at the bus station, we got my car, then I went to the hospital to see her.  She looked good, for being in the hospital and all.  It's not like I hadn't seen her there before--for the previous 5 years, she was in and out of the hospital for some reason or another.  After that, I did some shopping with my friend Angel, then went to her boyfriend's house in the country to drop him off.  On the way home, it started to sleet.  Long story short, me, Angel and the car ended up in a field due to black ice and my inability to drive on it.

Two days later, I get a check in the mail--my dad's lump sum Social Security check--about $7,000!!!  Merry Christmas to me!!  I was the only one who was under 18 at the time he got approved for retirement benefits, and he died about 2 weeks after that.  So guess who benefited?  LMAO at my dad.  And imagine--this check came about a week before Christmas...can we say SHOPPING SPREE???  Both me and sis blew through that money like two kids in a candy store.  I can't even remember what I got.  Really.  Christmas was awesome...that's all I can say.  That was also the last time I saw my mom alive.  Two days later she passed away.  I guess it was a sign that the day before, I was on my way to Vet's house, and the car broke down a 1/2 hour into the trip, and I had to turn around and come home.  When it came time for the will, I was named executrix of the (little) estate.  I couldn't do it...I told my sister to.  I left the day after the funeral...and went to Vet's house.  It was my way of escaping the mood at home...I just couldn't deal with it.  I got high almost every day while I was there.  Then the car broke down...again...and again...and again.  We got back to school about a week late due to the car...oops.  And that's my school story.  I know what you're thinking--where's the second semester?  I didn't really go then...just had too much to deal with.

coming soon...the Pittsburgh chronicles...lol

a movie about me?

Saw this on Liza's journal...

The Movie Of Your Life Is A Black Comedy

In your life, things are so twisted that you just have to laugh.
You may end up insane, but you'll have fun on the way to the asylum.

Your best movie matches: Being John Malkovich, The Royal Tenenbaums, American Psycho

If Your Life Was a Movie, What Genre Would It Be?

more things you may not know about me

I started this a while ago...here's the first set.  I thought it was about time I added to it.

21.  I am left-handed.

22.  I've had 16 jobs in the 11 years I've been working.

23.  I met Joey at one of them.

24.  I crashed into a window of another one with my car, on Friday the 13th.  I had Bum exactly one year to the day.

25.  I had one miscarriage...on Halloween 1996.

26.  I was pregnant again by Christmas of that year.

27.  My mom gave custody of me to my sister (the one I don't talk to) for a year when I was 12/13...and I hated it.

28.  I am virtually a toothless wonder--I have a total of 9 whole teeth in my mouth.

29.  The above all started with a frozen Snickers about 4 years ago.

30.  I'm very self-conscious...especially about my teeth (or lack there of).

That was hard!!!  Hopefully I'll think of more soon...

reunion

I've been thinking about writing this entry for a while, but just haven't got down to doing it, until now.  About 2 weeks ago, I received an e-mail from one of my former classmates, talking about having a class reunion next summer.  Now mind you, I graduated in 1995...so that would make this an 11-year reunion.  What the...?  In the letter, it said something like, "leave it to our class to be different"...lazy is more like it.  That's the thing about our class...we always put everything off until the last minute.  Fundraising, prom plans, etc.  So of course, when it came time for the reunion, everyone talked about it, but never got together and actually planned something...until it was too late.

As far as going, I dunno.  The way I look now...something like the toothless wonder...no way.  But if I get them fixed (which I've been putting off for lack of funding), I would definitely go...just for the hell of it.  I think I talk to one of the people I graduated with...and that's not much.  Don't get me wrong--I had friends...just now I wouldn't really want anything to do with them, but I can explain that in another entry...omg, you'd be surprised what I can tell...lol.  Back to the subject at hand--the reunion.  What do you think...should I go?  Would it be worth it?

i caved

...for now, anyway.  Yesterday I sent the rent check out, complete with late fee.  I only did this because the lawyers I called and left a message with never called back yet.  So instead of sitting with my hand on my ass, I did what I had to do.  Don't worry, I'm hoping one of them (I called two) calls back before December's rent is due...that's less than 2 weeks from now.  I mean, I know my rights, but I'm not that good.  Before I go any further with this, I need to know exactly what I'm doing...keep in mind, my landlord's got lots of money, and he can afford a good lawyer.  I can't.  I don't want to screw myself and my family in the process.  Also in the meantime, we're looking for another house/apartment...just in case we can't fight the good fight, although it looks like we'd win...I dunno.  I'll keep y'all posted.

i'm thankful for...

Weekend Assignment #86: Who are you thankful for -- who you won't be able to spend this Thanksgiving with?  This is a chance to tell us about the people you care about who will be far away from you this holiday, or who have passed on but remain inyour heart.

Extra Credit: Pumpkin pie vs. pecan pie -- which do you choose for Thanksgiving dessert?

Here's two people I wish could be here with me this Thanksgiving...

--Me and my mom...1995 (I know it's not the best pic, but it's all I had.)

I miss her terribly, and I wish she could be here to play with the kids...she would love themShe was goofy, and they'd get a kick out of her.

This is my sister, Phyllis...she passed on back in 1990, to her own personal battles.  I didn't even get to say goodbye...I was 13.  I miss her dearly...if only she was here...

As for the extra credit, pumpkin's my favorite--with loads of cool whip on it.  Unfortunately, I can't compare it to pecan...never had it.  I know, I'm missing out.

Well, I just don't know.  Not my journal...my house.  About two months ago, I wrote an entry about the girl downstairs and how she likes to play her music loud at all hours of the day and night...sometimes loud enough for us to hear it word for word up here.  Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I finally wrote a letter to my landlord telling him I was holding the rent until he put a stop to it.  Yesterday, I get a letter back from him, saying that if we didn't pay him by yesterday (yeah, the damn thing got lost in the mail), he was going to take legal action.  OK then!  So I called him (got the long distance turned back on for this...it was worth it) and reiterated what I had said in the letter.  His response?  He won't try to evict her, only because it'll take too long, since she's on Section 8.  PUH-LEEZE!  But he'll gladly take us to the magistrate for it.  So what do you think I'm gonna do??  Dammit, I put too much into this damn apartment for him to think he's gonna take it away just like that...I'm gonna fight his ass.  I sent an e-mail to a lawyer today, I'm calling the same lawyer tomorrow...to talk about opening an escrow account.  The same lawyer is the one who told me I can break my lease for the music thing...it falls under things he won't fix.  So I think I just might be able to beat this SOB at his own game...BRING IT ON!!!

new features...riiiight

I was reading my alerts (and comments left on journal entries), and I see that they put ads on the AOL journals written by paying members.  I think that's retarded on AOL's part--defacing paying members' personal space by putting the graffiti of various banners on the top of them.  So basically, they're making double the money on them--both from the journal owner, and the advertiser.  That's ludicrous.  My solution?  Tell AOL to screw off, get another ISP, and come to AIM...you can keep the same journal, same name, same features.  Yeah, the banner's annoying, but hey--I get this for free.  Hell, I'm getting Verizon DSL for cheaper than what I was paying AOL for dialup.  And my discount doesn't apply to the internet service--if that was the case, I'd be paying $8/month.  It's not bad...you should try it.  And the best part?  You get to stay in the ever-loving AOL J-Land community.  That's why I didn't want to cancel AOL, but I'm glad I did.  Now more than ever.

saturday six #83

This week's Saturday Six...go play!  I'm a little late, but I don't think Patrick minds...

1. You are invited to spend a night, alone, in a large house that is believed to be haunted.  A close friend of yours whom you trust tells you of his or her own experience, and you have sufficient reason to believe that there may be a genuine haunting going on there.  Without promise of any kind of reward for staying the night, would you agree to do so?

I think it would be cool, so yes.

2. What do you most enjoy about your job?

Talking to people from all across the country.

3. Who was the last person you had a conversation with?  What was the main topic of the conversation?

Joey...about the recent death of wrestler Eddie Guerrero.  It's sad and tragic.

4. Take this
quiz:   What kind of "smart" are you?

Naturally Smart

You're a naturally smart person. Your intelligence comes to you naturally, rather than from instruction - and you are better with applied or more real-world things... which comes in handy, here in the real world.

20% applied intelligence
40% natural intelligence

Too bad I don't show it that much...lol

5. What was the last food that you totally ruined -- to the point that it was inedible -- when trying to cook?

I think it was grilled cheese...don't ask.

6. STRANGELY-OBSCURE QUESTION #1:  If you had to do over again, would you change anything?

I don't think so.

ho ho ho?

Can you believe it--it's Christmas time here already!!!  I know it sounds weird, but that's what happened here today in Scranton.  The annual Santa Parade was this morning...pathetic but true.  We didn't go, but we watched it on TV.  Of course, it's sponsored by the mall, so you can tell how they're thinking.  More season, more money.  So that means Santa will be at the mall from today on.  Ewwww.  Also, one of the local radio stations started playing Christmas music on November 1st.  When I was informed of this, I was like, What the hell??

Personally, I think it's too early for it.  In my opinion, they should wait until after Thanksgiving--one holiday at a time, people!!!

Your thoughts?

monday photo shoot

Your Monday Photo Shoot: Do "Before and After" photos on any subject you like. The idea is to show change over a bit of time. Some easy ideas would be haircuts, cleaned-up rooms, kittens growing up into cats, and etc. And yes, this means you can dip into your collection of old photos (they certainly qualify as "before").

I actually have 2 for this week...

#1--Bum.

After...

#2...Home Fry.

shock, awe, and work

Let's see...how did my day go?  Let me explain, and you can draw your own conclusions...

Like I've been saying, today was the parent/ teacher conferences at school.  What we heard was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I/we were thinking.  Home Fry's was first...we've talked to his teacher before, but we got details today--he's not doing as good as he could be (or as we thought he was doing).  She said something about because he's a boy, his learning skills are slower.  Now don't get me wrong--she said for not having any preschool, he's doing good.  She said it would be good to help him along with stuff...it'll help him and his teachers for the rest of the year.  That and the 1st grade teachers in this school are TOUGH.  And strict.  So at least she's giving us a heads up.  On a good note, though, she liked how I did the Teddy project--she said I set the bar up pretty high...lol.

After that was Bum's turn.  Her teacher is cool too.  The first thing she did was show us her report card...OMG--the lowest grade she had was a B.  WOW!  Her teacher told us she has a problem not paying attention in class--instead she's talking to her friends (now that doesn't surprise me).  What surprised me more was the fact that she's not in remedial reading like she was last year...and she's still getting these grades!!!  Both me and Joey were impressed...we both told her "it must be the teacher".  The teacher gave herself a pat on the back, and we told her she deserved it.  She's a young teacher, and she likes to make the learning fun, so that's good.  I'm ecstatic about what I've learned today.  My doubts are gone.  =)

As far as work...well, what can I say?  It was WORK...duh.  And to think...I have tomorrow (well, actually today) off.  Can you believe this?  This sucks!!!  Oh well.

back to work

My vacation's over as of tomorrow...boohoo.  Why do they always have to go by so fast?  I wish I can take a permanent vacation--or at least a month.  Oh well.  At least I got paid for it.  And I did virtually nothing.  I mean it--I pretty much sat on my butt and vegged.  Tomorrow--back to hell with fluorescent lighting.

Today I got some stuff done outside, since it was about 70 and sunny here.  I whacked the grass...only because that's the only thing the landlord gave us to do the lawn.  Yay.  As I was doing that, the kids took the rakes and started with the leaves.  Finally they're starting to change colors and fall (the leaves, not the kids).  Anyhoo, after I raked up what I cut, I started to clean up the kids' little "woods" area--about a 30 square-foot patch of trees and whatnot--so they wouldn't get hurt while playing over there.  That was fun...rearranging the furniture (which was already there, but that's another story), cleaning up the leaves and garbage, making a "fireplace" out of the rocks, etc.  I did that for about 2 hours.  My back hurts now.  Ow.  Do I really have to go tomorrow?

Tomorrow's also the parent-teacher conferences at school.  Looking forward to those (notice the hint of sarcasm).  Little Guy (from now on, I'm gonna refer to him as Home Fry, since that's what I've been calling him lately) has no school all week, and Bum has 3 days of school, but gets out at 11am...what a waste.  So imagine the fun we're going to have...(again, sarcasm).

by the way, if anyone knows who's doing the little vivi icons for the sidebar, let me know. =D

speech...

Just to let you know, I suck at this, so bear with me...

Thank you to Vivian, Patrick, Betty, and everyone else who was involved in coordinating the VIVIs, who without them, this wouldn't be possible.  Awesome job.

Thanks to my contenders (I hope I'm getting these names right)--Wil (who also won), Monica, and Judi.  You all do a wonderful job with your writing.

A big thank you goes out to my family--Joey, Alexis, and Joey Jr.--you know I wouldn't be here without you.

And of course, thank you to all of you who read--if it weren't for you, I would have stopped long ago (well, that and I wouldn't have got the nomination in the first place...).

OK...enough of the sappy stuff...WOOHOO!!!  Where's the booze?

VIVIs...here we come

Tonight's the big night...the VIVI awards will be announced!  It's live at 9pm-11pm EDT.  This is where to go...

AOL members...Journals Chat

NEW!!--AIM members...JournalsCafe

The second one came about because I boohooed about AIM members not being able to access the AOL chat rooms...something the coordinators didn't think of.  But Betty and Vivian worked through the kinks, and now we have a room!!  Woohoo!!  Now I can get all dressed up...here's what I've been working on...

I might tweak it, but who knows.

theodore e. bear...

...aka Teddy has come to stay with us for the weekend.  It's better than staying at school, I guess.  Actually, he is here, and it's part of a project in Joey's class.  He came with some books (with bears in them, of course), a nightgown, bib, blanket, and some other stuff.  Each Friday, one of the kids will bring Teddy home, take care of him, and then take him back to school on Monday.  And there's a journal for him too, so you can tell what you did with him.  We're the first ones to have him!  So far, he's been to the store, Verizon, the library, and he helped sing Happy Birthday to Dad.  As far as the rest of the weekend, who knows...the kids almost went to Niagara Falls tomorrow (but Grandma changed her mind).  I dunno...I'm just excited, because we get to set the standard for the journal...lmao...that's going to be fun.  Hopefully I get a pic of Teddy posted in the near future.

cookies!

This week is "Cook With Your Kids" week over at Food Network, so Joey had a good idea...he and the kids made cookies.  Chocolate chip, actually.  He mixed the batter, and they put them on the cookie sheet.  They came out pretty good--all warm and gooey...mmmmm.  The man loves cooking and they love cooking, so hey, why not?  I would show pics, but well,  you know.  Sorry. =P

smile for the camera

Today's picture day at school.  I hope they smile (and not that stupid, rehearsed kind of smile, but a cute one).  I hope Bum's hair holds up--she doesn't get hers done until after lunch, and I didn't put hairspray in it.  I hope she doesn't rip her pantyhose.  Man, there's a lot of hopes here--my main one is that they look good.  Especially Little Guy, since it's his first school pic. =)

I just remembered...Little Guy is Student of the Month for November!!!  We had to find out via the monthly newsletter the school sends home.  When we asked him about it, he said "I know" and walked away.  That brat knew and didn't tell us!  I guess I should think of it this way--it's not going to his head...lol.

Tomorrow is Joey's birthday...the big 3-0.  He's been telling me that even the school's recognizing his birthday as a holiday--it's a dress-down day, and they get out early too.  HAHAHAHA.  Yeah right.

Man, this school year's flying by...the 1st quarter's over already, and the wonderful parent/teacher conferences are next week (FUN).  It seems like just yesterday we were getting them registered!!  I'll write more about those next week, since we have both on Monday, back to back.

j-land hopping

As you can see from the "Other Journals" section, my reading list is expanding.  Between the VIVI noms and the trick-or-treat thru J-land, I got to see lots of new journals...some of which I set up alerts for.  I still don't have all of the new ones there...I'm waiting to get the web address so I can add them.  So if you don't see yourself there, let me know by leaving a comment.  If you do see yourself there, leave a comment too.  I like comments, I do I do.
