da weekend

What a way to start my vacation--with a car and a little spending money!  Took a drive up to Dickson City, which is a little town outside of Scranton, and has LOADS of stores...some of which I hadn't seen until the other day.  Inspired by Teresa, I'll run through the list...

Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Kohl's (new, and don't like it), Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Pier 1 (which I will never set foot in again), Toys R Us, PetSmart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, Dress Barn, Dots, Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, Staples, Home Depot, Lowe's, Raymour & Flanigan, Sleepy's (2 of those), La-Z-Boy, Sams Club, Best Buy, Circuit City, Dollar Tree, Famous Footwear, Payless Shoes, Michael's Arts & Crafts, AC Moore, Borders, and Playtime Boutique (WOOHOO!)...all within a two-mile radius.  And that's not including the mall within this area, which has Sears, Bon-Ton, Kaufmanns, Old Navy, Express, Limited, and a bunch of other stores.  And a strip mall, which has Chuck E. Cheese, Party City, Harbor Freight Tools, Leslie's Pool, La-Z-Boy Kids, among others.

Hungry?  Let's see...Lonestar Steakhouse, Charlie Brown's Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, Denny's, A&W/Long John Silver's, Burger King, McDonald's (2), Wendy's, Far East Buffet, Old Country Buffet, TGIFriday's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Smokey Bones BBQ, Uno Chicago Grill, Red Robin, Panera Bread, Don Pablo's, Heavenly Ham, Ruby Tuesday, Subway (in Walmart), Wegman's (they have a restaurant in there), Viewmont Diner, Sheetz, Perkins, Starbucks, Fresno's, Little Caesars (in Kmart), TCBY, and a food court in the mall.

I probably left something out, but I think that's enough to ponder for now.  And to think...they're still building there--while driving around, we saw at least two leveled pieces of land...who knows what they're putting there.

da 5'er...a day late

Time for this week's 5'er...go play!

1. Have you ever "mooned" anyone? Tell us about it.

I can't remember if and when I did that, probably did it to Joey a number of times--you know, walking to the tub...lol.

2. Did you ever toilet paper someone's house when you were a kid?

That I know I never did, but it sure as hell looks like fun!

3.  In your town where is the best place to get a really good hamburger?

I don't know about a plain hamburger, but my favorite place to get a Texas Hamburger (chili sauce, onions, and mustard) is the Keystone Restaurant.  MMMM...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!!

4. What is the worse movie you ever saw...and have you ever walked out on a movie cause it was so bad?

I've never walked out on a movie...but I heard Fantasia was that bad...my mom and niece walked out and got a refund.

5. If you could change your eye color would you and what color would you chose?

Wouldn't change them at all...I like my blue/gray eyes.  I think it kind of goes good with the hair...lol.

awesome day

Had fun yesterday.  As you can see from below, that's what most of our refund went for.  It's in the shop today, getting some brake thingy fixed--free of charge (the dealer we got it from has a garage across the street).  Thing was, the garage wouldn't let it pass inspection until that was fixed, so that's gonna take all day.  But they did let me take it to work last night, on the condition that I would have it there first thing this morning.  So I obliged.

At work, I was in such a good mood, and people noticed.  Everyone was happy for me, and my manager asked me if I was staying there now...uh, no.  But he was in a good mood...joking with me asking me how many days I had left...lol.  Later, he monitored me, said my calls were virtually perfect, and said he had nothing for me to improve on...awesome!  Then I went home not too long after that...I didn't want to be there--I wanted to catch up on the driving I missed out on for nearly 6 months..lol.

Of course, I didn't just take it to work--I got out of work 3 hours early.  So we decided to go somewhere we haven't been in over a year--Wal-Mart.  See, there's no bus that goes there, and with no car...well, you get the idea.  So me, Joey and Bum (Home Fry was at Grandma's house) hopped in the vroom-vroom and off we went.  We didn't get much, just basically looked around at what we were gonna get in the near future...a new computer chair for our room, a computer desk and wireless router for the kids' room, a CAMERA for me (couldn't leave that out!).  After that, we decided to drive around the area of Wal-Mart and see what was new.  They'd been adding new stores, restaurants, etc.  Wow.  More places to spend money!!!  Woohoo!

ta da

How's that?  The pic is not of our car...don't have a camera yet.  But I found this one on the web...looks identical to the one we got.  It's the same color as the one in the pic.

doing the happy dance

I don't think I'll have a problem getting to work for the few days I have left...we're getting a car tomorrow!!!  The IRS decided to be nice and send my income tax return earlier than expected...COOL.  This morning, I was watching TiVo'd AI from last night, and I got three phone calls within about 15 minutes.  The first was from the glass shop, saying the window was fixed (I took it down y'day).  Second was the new tenant, saying she was coming soon to take me up to pick up said window.  The last was Jackson Hewitt, telling me to come over and pick up my refund check.  Huh?  So soon?  Yup.  So of course, I had to finish watching Idol (some of those guys are sooo hot!), then I got my check.  After picking up the window, the rest of the morning and some of the afternoon were spent looking for a minivan to buy.  Right now we're eyeing up a nice van...it's gonna cost us most of the refund.  But we're thinking long-run here--this way he can get a job and we can get the other things we need (like a new camera...lol).  Plus, my state refund should be on its way...and the profit sharing from my job comes next month.  Yay.

dodging the bullet

Yesterday was interesting, I guess.  I did go to work, expecting to be sent home within an hour of arriving.  Nope, I was wrong.  I was online for about 2 hours before I was called in for my lashing.  When my manager did pull me offline, I was expecting to get a long suspension.  Wrong again.  I'm suspended for three days.  I thought it was three weeks until I can transfer back to Scranton.  Strike three--it's only 2 weeks, and one of those I'm on vacation.  Good thing I'm not a psychic...or a weatherman.

Okay...the details.  He cut me a break.  A big one.  He didn't count all 10 of those days against me.  Hell, it was like it didn't happen.  I was supposed to get the suspension before I took that extra vacation.  Not only did I get the suspension, but it's broken up.  I'm suspended today, work tomorrow, then it's vacation time for 9 days.  Then the following week, I work Monday through Wednesday.  I'm suspended Thursday and Friday, off the weekend, then go back to Scranton on the 13th.  Confused yet?  I know I was when it was explained to me...I think the manager was getting a little discombobulated too.  In short, I have only 4 days to find a way to get to WB.  That's it.  Cool.  I think I can manage.

back to the grind...for now

I'm not looking forward to it, but I'm going back to work today.  Joey didn't get his interview yesterday, since the managers at the restaurant were in a meeting when he went down there.  I'll be working for about 3 days, then I'll be on vacation.  Hopefully the restaurant calls him back soon.  I don't know if I'll last another three (actually, two)weeks...the managers at my job say I'm not trying hard enough to get to work.  WTF?  How much harder can I try?  I asked if they (the managers) can help me find people to switch schedules with--the managers in Scranton would help you in any way they could--they said NO--it's your responsibility to do that, and we can't take time out of our busy schedules to help you.  Wow...makes me feel so welcome.

That is another reason I don't like that office--almost everyone is so rude and uncaring.  In Scranton, everyone was like family--helped you out when they could, and if they couldn't, referred you to someone who could.  You could talk to the managers about anything, and they would lend a sympathetic ear.  Down in WB, it's like they could care less.  You're on your own there, and as long as you show up for work, you're pretty much invisible.  Hell, if you don't show up, you're invisible too.  Case in point--me, when I didn't show up for a week, do you think they would call to see what the hell was going on?  Nope.  What would they have done had I not called two days ago?  Still had me on the payroll?  Who knows.

I'm done ranting for now.  Did I mention how much I hate my job for the time being?

better late than never...lol

Finally!  Pics from Christmas.  Joey's cousin Kerri  (the nice one) took these with her camera phone, since I didn't have a camera of my own.  Isn't she sweet?  She couldn't figure out how to send them until now.  Like I said, better late than never...lol.

one more thing

Oh yeah...Happy 71st Birthday in Heaven, Dad.

Only pic I have scanned, from 20+ yrs ago.  Maybe there's a reason...

The only thing I like about my father at this point is the blond hair and blue eyes...now Home Fry has them.  Didn't give me much more...thank God.  I didn't get his vulnerability, his way of putting people down, or his ability to believe anything he heard.  He had his world pulled out from under him when he was diagnosed with cancer, and the only thing his new fiance thought about was taking everything he had--literally.  There's so much more I can say here, but I'm biting my fingers (like biting my tongue...).

A quote from him:

"I was the strongest kid in my class--my grades held everyone else up." (or at least that's how I think it went...)

til next time...=)

you believe this?

For some reason, after being MIA for a week, I still have my job.  I have to report Wednesday if I still want to be employed--otherwise, they'll take me off the payroll.  Why should I go back, you ask?  Well, it looks like Cingular not only renewed their contract with us, they expanded it--needing more wireless 411 operators.  In the Scranton office.  Meaning if I can do the Wilkes-Barre office for 2 1/2 weeks (I'm on vacation next week), I can once again be back in the Scranton office come March 13th.  That's good news, I guess.

Me going back there is resting on Joey's head right now.  He's going to apply at one of the downtown restaurants tomorrow.  They are giving on-the-spot interviews, and he's feeling good about it.  So if he gets a job tomorrow, I won't be going back to Verizon.  I could collect unemployment, or get a part-time job.  Either way it's good.

I don't pray much, and I don't ask much, but I'm asking now.  Please think of us when you go to bed tonight...hope he gets a job tomorrow.  I think it would be so much better for us in the long run...

whistle while you work

Over the past two days, we've got some major work done in the apartment downstairs.  The most it really needed was a paint job--something that hadn't been done since who-knows-when.  The landlord says it was done by one of the old tenants back in July, but keep in mind, these are the same people who told US that OUR apartment was going to be cleaned, painted, and getting new carpets.  (Click on the links to see what was done...by us) Speaking of stupid people, I want to know what kind of drugs the last person who painted it was on--they painted over flaking old paint, electrical sockets and duct tape...WTF?

Anyway, we got all but one wall done...the one we missed is the one with the broken window, which hopefully we'll have replaced on Monday.  We would have had the window replaced sooner, but with no car to get us to the glass fixer-upper, it's easier said than done.  It was hard enough to get someone to take me to Sherwin-Williams to get the paint--we had to wait all week for that, and the paint store's closer than the glass place.  Not to mention we would have to go there to drop off the window AND go back to pick it up.  Grrrr.  I. SO. NEED. A. CAR. RIGHT. NOW.

At least we're getting something out of all this work...virtually (if not completely) free rent this month.  Let's see...$60 for the paint, $50 for the window (when it's done), $100 for renting the apartment (to someone we picked).  The rest comes from payment for the paint job, which would have cost him more than double had he gone with a pro.  And Ehrlich the bug guy's coming next week some time.  Yay.

looking back

Since sitting here, I've been doing a little reflecting about work, and the waste it was.  To think I put up such a fit for this job...what was I thinking?  Was I out of my mind...temporarily insane, or just naive?  I remember...I think it was the "positive" part of me thinking my schedule would get better.  Thinking work in general would get better.  For the most part, by the time I was transferred, that part of me was shattered.  There was no way at that point that it could get better--the only way at my job was down.  And that's exactly how it got...worse, until the point where I couldn't take it anymore.  Now I'm at the point where I'm just waiting for them to fire me.  I still haven't received word about it, and until I do, I can't collect...all I can do is wait.  I think I'll call tomorrow.  Can't hurt...

good news

I had a fairly good day...I got some stuff outside cleaned up, since it was SO NICE today.  The bad part of that is now my back hurts from raking loads of garbage (literally), and my fingertip feels funny since I accidently poked it with a thorn from a branch I picked up (hours ago).  I guess it's good pain, because I can look in the backyard and say, I DID THAT.  Oh yeah, the kids got to ride their scooters in the alley behind the house, too.  It was a good day.

We also rented the apartment!  Cool lady, her teenage daughter, and two dogs.  Now we have to paint (we have to get the paint first...that's the hard part) and fix the window (again, getting the window is, well, you know).  Martin (landlord) will take the expenses off our rent for this month, as well as some for the painting....yay!

valentine's day

Despite the last entry, I'm in a fairly good mood.  Why?  I dunno.  I guess I knew it was coming, that's all.  It surely isn't because today's Valentine's Day--with the exception of the kids having their parties in school today (Home Fry had an ICE CREAM party), today's just like any other day.  No celebration here, no presents, etc.  I don't even think either one of us has said "Happy Valentine's Day" either.  No big deal.  But for everyone else...

til next time...=)

if only...

...I had a car...

...I had someone to give me a ride to work...

...one more person had volunteered to be transferred...

then I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in now.

I'm officially being fired from my job.  I have yet to hand in my ID and headset, but the paperwork's being processed.  I didn't go to work today, and if I did, I would be home by now anyway.  I called my team leader earlier to see if I would be wasting my time making the trip.  He couldn't say, but off the record it wouldn't be worth going down there for.  He, like another manager Sunday, said he sympathized with me, but it's my responsibility to get there.  I'm thinking, what good does their sympathy do me?  Sympathy isn't getting me to work everyday.  Sympathy isn't getting me transferred back to Scranton.  He told me that the transfer was contractual, so there was nothing they could do about it.  I told him only one person would have prevented me from being transferred. This included the ones on disability--and they were given a choice...either stay in Scranton (which is pretty much closing down next month), or be transferred.  Most of the ones who said "no" will be eventually transferred in March anyway.  If I wasn't transferred, at least that would've bought me some time.  Oh well.  I'm rambling.  I hate when I do that.

Now what?  I honestly have no idea.

You know that show, "The Office"?  Did you know that they use the city I live in as the backdrop?  Sometimes, including during the opening credits, they show or mention things that are here.  Also, Dunder-Mifflin, the company on the show, is loosely based on a real company here.  Paper Magic Group is a company based here in Scranton.  And since tomorrow's Valentine's Day, if you have kids, you might have one of the major items they make...those little paper Valentines!  Check on the box...lol.  Just some little info bits for you today.

what to do...

I don't want to go to work this afternoon.  I know when I get there I'm getting a new asshole ripped into me, in a nice way.  I know this since I haven't spoken to my team leader since two weeks ago, before I called off twice in a week.  I. don't. want. to. go.

Maybe you guys can help me.  As you already know, I need a new job.  A job that's close enough that I won't be breaking the bank for gas money.  Something that can work within my schedule.  So Joey can get a job.  So I don't have to worry about who is going to get the kids from school.  Some job that I can have more time with the family.  You probably know what I'm getting at.  I think I need a stay-at-home job.  The thing is...I have no idea where to start looking.  Anyone have a clue?  I want something reputable...no fly-by-night bullshit.  I'd appreciate any feedback on this, being that I'm pretty much desperate at this point.  Any ideas?  Let me know.

I just realized my hit counter reset.  Damn.

can i spend it?

That's what Bum said the other day when she got $10 from a visitor at school.  You're probably wondering WTF?  Here's the story...

Bum and the rest of her class sent letters, pictures, and Christmas ornaments to an outfit stationed in Iraq since the beginning of the school year.  You see, one of the soldiers in the company was a neighbor of Mrs. Jennings, her teacher.  So when they were in the states for a two-week vacation (I guess), they decided to stop in and say hi.  They spent the morning there, ate lunch with them, and gave them each a gift--a Iraqi $10 bill.  Cool, huh?

news

The apartment looks better now than it did yesterday--we cleaned it up some.  I took Barbara and Betty's advice and took pics with a non-digital camera, but after the garbage was taken out.  I know I should have left it there, but the stench was just too much.  Anyhoo, Joey cleaned the kitchen, including the fridge.  Some people came to look at it today...all of them nice, potential tenants.  So many, in fact, that we ran out of applications (actually, the owner only sent 5...lol).  They all liked it, especially when we told them it would be getting a new window and a paint job.  Yay.

Also today I finally filed my taxes...the other W-2 came in the mail yesterday.  The final total?  A little over $6,000.  After the government takes what I owe for student loans...about $3,800.  Not bad.  That also made me happy today.

Which brings me to tomorrow...I called off yesterday, so that's going to be brought up when I go in tomorrow.  That's IF I can get there--I still have to find a ride, and they're calling for snow overnight...not too sure on how much.  I already know I'm suspended for three days due to me calling off on Wednesday for the same reason--no way of getting there.  What's next, I dunno.  Dammit.

In a way, that's ok though, since I'm going to see if I can still get the job at Bank of America.  Someone I know from work is also going up there (I mentioned him before...Matt, the one who was giving me a ride when we first got booted), so I'll see if he can get me up there until I get a car.  Who knows.

I think that covers everything...

ewwwwwww

SHE'S GOOOOOOOONE.

Biotch finally handed us the keys last night.  This morning, we decided to go down and see what we were up against.  One word--yuck.  She left bags of garbage outside, and more inside.  There were dirty diapers in the bedroom, along with a mattress.  There was still food in the cupboards.  The fridge...well, when we started to take things out of it, we got hit with one hell of a stench--we had to go outside, it was that bad.  The phone jacks and thermostats were ripped off the walls, the one light switch was gone, and the light it controlled was still on (it burned out while we were there).  Thank God today was garbage day.  We sat out there and watched them take everything...lol.

So tomorrow, I'll be spending my day off cleaning, getting estimates on windows, calling an electrician, and who knows what else.  On top of that, people are coming to look at the house.  The first thing out of my mouth is going to be, "it's not as bad as it looks".  Yeah.  They'll be coming back.

cha-ching

Someone just made my day this morning, and you'd be surprised at who it was.  Actually, it was two people, but what they both said made me feel good.  Wanna know who it was?  The Department of Education, that's who!  Why, you ask?  They told me I don't owe as much as I thought...which means I'll be getting a income tax REFUND this year!  In fact, I'll be getting more than I thought, since the governemnt will be taking less than half of what my return will be (I think).  The guy I talked to told me he usually doesn't get to make someone happy..lol.  This means I might be able to get a car (and a camera?!?) with that refund...woohoo!  Now if I would only get my other W-2 in the mail...I think I'm gonna have to call them and see WTF is going on with it.  It might have got lost in the mail or something--who knows.  I'm just so happy today!  If I get a ride to work today, that would make my day too!  Crossing my fingers.

stuff

Just a little something before I go to hell with fluorescent lighting...not much going on here.  I hate public transportation--I have to leave my house about 2 hours before I have to be there, so I can be an hour early.  It's either that or I'm late, which I can't do...if I'm 3 minutes late or more, I get a 3-day suspension.  Oops.  And getting a ride down is really out of the question, since everyone I can get a ride with is either working hours before or after me.  Dammit.

You know, I could've had a job at Bank of America in 3 weeks, making more than what I am now, and with better benefits.  The keywords here are "could have"--the hours are not within my reach, meaning in order for Joey to get a job, I have to work later hours.  Like shifts starting around 4 or 5pm.  Oh well.  And to think, it sounded so good.

She's still down there, but only until tomorrow when her phone gets turned on at her new house.  She's moved out, but she's been hanging out down there because the phone's still on in the apartment.  We were kind of thinking that's what it was...either that or she was using the 10-day eviction notice against the landlord (that way he couldn't rent it out, etc).

So that's my past few days...who knows when I'll be writing again...

what city and state?

I've now been in the new office for about three weeks, and you know what I just realized?  I could be taking YOUR 411 calls (well, some of you anyway).  I forgot I was doing directory for Verizon landline now...DUH.  I get mostly PA, NJ, and DE calls, with a weird one thrown in just for the hell of it.  Like the ones that just want to know what day it is, what time it is, etc.  I get so many calls for Philadelphia these days, I'm starting to know my way around the city now...and I've only been there once in recent years...lol.  Just thought I'd mention that...I need to go to bed now.

so much to say

Damn...working late has prevented me from writing lately--it's been taking a lot out of me.  I've come to the conclusion that working until 1am isn't bad...until you're trying to go to bed.  Unfortunately, it was short-lived--I'm back on afternoons next week, along with six days.  Joy.

I have so much to catch you guys up on, since I haven't written in a few days.  Let's just say lots has happened...let me think.

Hmmm.  Okay.  Here we go.

The kids are feeling better.  Joey had whatever it was over the weekend, too, but he's okey dokey now.  Now I think I've got something, but not as bad as what they had.  Not even close.  Damn.

Biotch downstairs got her 10-day eviction notice from Martin.  In response, she broke one of the windows in her apartment.  Must've thrown something through it.  Making a statement, I guess.

Called the post office again...she threw the mail in the yard again.  Supervisor at the post office thought it was taken care of in his absence last week...nope.  Called the postal inspector too--she said we have to see her doing it so they can prosecute.

Had to ride the bus to work twice (no, make that three times, including today) this week, but it's not that bad.  Getting home is what sucks.  I hate feeling needy.

Report card day was yesterday.  Neither one of them did bad.  Who knew?

We came to the conclusion this morning that we need to take Bum to a psychologist.  There's something going on in that head of hers, and we need to know what, why, and how to change it for the better.

I think that catches you up.  For now, anyway.

til next time...=)
