the rest of the day/night/whatever

We didn't feel like cooking tonight, so we ordered Papa John's for dinner...mmmmm.  We haven't had that since before we moved here--we've been deprived.  After feeding time at the zoo, the kids got into costume, which was fairly easy...except Bum's makeup.  Wait...I didn't tell you what they were, did I??  Oops..my bad.  Bum was a pop star, and Little Guy went as Stone Cold Steve Austin.  Not bad for last minute online costume buying.  Then off we went.

As far as trick-or-treating, they made out pretty good.  We were out for about two hours, one and a half of which Little Guy was complaining.  Bum was the good one today, not whining at all.  We used their backpacks as goodie bags (my idea) and brought a big shopping bag along to unload the goodies when the backpacks got too heavy (Joey's idea).  The kids liked the idea too.  While out on our haunt (if you want to call it that), we saw some nicely decorated houses, some with no decorations at all (but their lights were on), and some scary houses.  The best one in my opinion was the one that scared the crap out of the older kids, when the mannequin on the front porch jumped up...it was a guy!  It was too damn funny.  Also during our looong walk, there was a guy handing out hot fresh popcorn too!  It was too awesome...I love the new neighborhood.

So now we're winding down...me with the puter, Joey and the kids watching WWE on tv.  I'd have to say I had a good day...even without the camera (still looking for it, though).

Since I can't post new pics, I thought I'd post an old one.  This is Bum when she was about a year old...taking after me.

today so far, brought to you by the letter "p"

Today Joey's class had a "p"ajama "p"arty, to celebrate the letter "p".  I like to wear jammies, so I decided to go and hang out.  I even went out and bought a new set of jammies for the occasion.  It was sooo much fun!  All the kids and his teachers (who by the way are SOOOOO cool) wore their "p"ajamas, ate "p"opcorn and "p"umpkin "p"eeps, and watched the Barney (who is "p"urple) Halloween Special.  Before and after the movie, the kids were all (well not all...Little Guy didn't want to) dancing to Halloween music...Mrs. Guerra (his teacher) and Miss D. (student teacher) were going nuts dancing along with them.  Where they get all the energy, I have no idea.  But all and all, a good time was had by all.  As far as "p"ics, I did get some.  I will "p"ost them as soon as they come back--one of the other moms gave me her disposable camera to take "p"ics with...she'll get them developed and "p"ut onto a CD for me...=)  I'll be back later to let you know how the rest of the day goes.

insomnia

Dammit...I can't sleep.  I just can't seem to get my camera (actually, lack of it) off my mind.  I'm sitting here crying and racking my brain trying to figure out where the hell it went.  It's driving me crazy.  Figures, the one time I put it down somewhere other than in my purse, it grows legs and walks away.  I hope that it broke for whoever has it now.  Damn that person, whoever it may be.  As far as getting a new camera goes, I was outbidded...WAY outbidded.  I can't afford what they're putting up there--no way...so that's adding to my frustration.  I wish someone would take pity on me and get me a new one, but I know that won't happen...I'm not that lucky.  Nope, and never will be.  Oh well...I guess I can dream.  I do that a lot--that's all I can do.  That's if I can sleep.

saturday six #81

Saturday Six...go visit and play!

Here's my answers...

1. What is a bigger pet peeve for you:  someone trying to talk on a cell phone during a movie, a baby crying in a restaurant, a dog barking on your street, or music played loud enough to rattle windows.

The music...I deal with it almost every day from my neighbor below me.

2. What is your favorite cologne or perfume that you wear most often?  Which one is the one you like the scent of, but don't wear often or at all?

I usually don't wear perfume--I'm not really a girly girl.  I have no idea.

3. In your opinion, what is the best way to tell someone you value how much they mean to you?

Tell them to their face! ...duh.

4. Earlier this week, I posted a personality quiz:   If you haven't taken it, please do; if you already have, how accurate were the results compared with your true personality.

I scored a 40...

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest.
Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.

It was kind of accurate, but the 41-50 range sounded like me too.  The friends thing didn't sound like me--I seem to make friends fairly easy, but I am loyal to my friends too.

5. When was the last time you feel you got as much sleep as you really needed in a single night?

I don't remember--I don't get to sleep in too much.  After getting up early all week, my internal clock likes to get me up too early on the weekends...and I can't fall back to sleep.

6. If a stranger walked up to you and handed you a briefcase with enough money to pay off every debt you had down to the penny, do you think you could start from then on living debt-free?

I think I could...I haven't been overspending in recent months, and now I'm smarter--most of my debt was from when I was still in college.

good thing, i guess

After I wrote the last entry, I came to the conclusion that the camera is gone...so I started looking for a new one.  So where do you go for a good, cheap camera??  Ebay, of course.  And you know what?  Not only did I find one, I found a GOOD one...here's a pic...

It's an SLR camera...all I know about that is that it's got a LOT of features...like 10x zoom, audio, etc.  It's refurbished, and it's only $23, including shipping.  Cool.

not happy

This sucks.  Big time.  I've been furiously been looking around my house, turning it upside down.  Why, you ask??

My camera is MIA right now.

I haven't seen it since yesterday, when I set it down somewhere in the house after the Halloween parade...it must've grown legs and walked out the door.  I was thinking I accidently left it at the store, but I called and they said no.  I asked Bum if by chance she took it to Grandma's house with her, but she said no.  She said she saw it in my room, but it's not there either.

Right now I am sooo pissed off because of my stupidity in leaving it sitting on some counter in the house...mainly because I had every intention of uploading the pics I took and posting them today.  GRRRRRR.  Making things worse is Joey, who keeps saying, "It's just a camera.  I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of it."  Yeah...an expensive camera...that I constantly use!!!  DUH!  I swear, I treat that thing like it's an American Express card--I never leave home without it.  AAAAAA!  It's only been a day, but I'm going nuts trying to figure out what the hell happened to it...

What a way to start my vacation.

I love putting up old pics...it's just thinking of the stories that go with them that sucks.  This pic doesn't really have a story, so it's not that hard. It's just cute. =)

Bum and Little Guy...1999

Little Guy went back to school yesterday, and he's doing fine.  Bum's being her normal pain-in-the-butt self.  I'm still sick, and I think Joey's getting it too...grrrrr.

Tomorrow's their Halloween parade/party at school...fun.  I have no idea why they're having it tomorrow--Halloween's on Monday.  Don't worry--I'll have pics to share...

This year we had to order their costumes online, since we don't have the car to go shopping.  And it figures that the kids had no idea what they wanted to be...we didn't order them until Monday--and had to pay extra to have them shipped overnight so they'd be here in time.  Yay...more money that I don't have going down the drain.  But it's for a good cause, I guess--the kids being happy.

brrrr

I know I live in a somewhat cold state (PA), but does it have to start so early??  We turned the heat on for the first time this year, and what did I see on some of the cars while taking Bum to school this morning?  I'm biting my tongue as I say this...SNOW.  It was on the cars of teachers who live in the nearby higher elevations.  I haven't seen snow this early in at least a few years.  Actually, right now outside it's a snow/sleet/rain mix--ewwww.  Now don't get me wrong, I like the winter--sledding, building snow forts, snowball fights, driving in snow (when no one else is out), etc.  But Halloween isn't even here yet!  I know...some places already got feet of the white stuff...it usually doesn't hit here until sometime in November.  And that's a few flurries here and there.  Oh well--maybe it's a sign for what's to come...anybody wanna come over and help me build my snow fort/sled tunnel this year?  Feel free to come over anytime...when the snow starts sticking, anyway.

Ok...I'm done whining now.  I'll whine about my sick day at work later.  lol.

the rest of the story

I called off of work today, for two reasons: (1)because I'm not feeling so hot, and (2)to (try to) prevent Joey from getting sick by taking care of the kids tonight.  I know how Joey gets when he's sick, and if he got what Little Guy had, I'd most likely be rushing him to the ER when his throat closes on him.  Captain Obvious says that's not good.

After I wrote this morning's entry, Joey (The Man) woke up and told me the whole story of what happened at the hospital.  For one, they didn't get home until after 5am.  He told me Little Guy was awesome and very polite while there.  He was asking questions about everything...feeding his curiousity.  He was so good, he got 2 sets of stickers!  He also told me the doc almost wanted to admit him...it was either that or antibiotics.  As you can tell, he close the latter.  Not only did he have the acute pharyngitis, he also has a touch of pneumonia in his ear...yay.  It was a good thing Joey decided to take him up there when he did--if he had waited, it would have gotten worse.  Awesome call, Dad.

til next time...=)

another sick day

This is what he'll be doing most of the day, I suppose.  He's got "acute pharyngitis"...or in his terms, "sick".  Little Guy woke up around 1am, and you could hear his breathing wasn't right, and he was coughing up a storm.  So Joey took Little Guy to the hospital in the wee hours this morning, via his brother.  They didn't get home until about 4am, and Little Guy crashed in my bed.  Joey didn't fall asleep til about 6:30...right around the time when the alarm for me was going off.  Ewwww.  So that makes 3 out of 4 of us who have something...ironically, the one who isn't sick is the one who usually is.  Give him a few days...he'll have it too.  Yay.  Something to look forward to...

i think i earned my wings

This is gonna be a little long...

When I woke up this morning (around 11), I heard someone outside yelling someone else's name...and I didn't think anything of it.  So I went about my usual morning routine--make coffee, go outside, smoke cigarette and enjoy said coffee.  Girl's still out there screaming for her friend...still not paying any real attention.  An hour later, I go out to have another smoke, and she's STILL out there...and then I hear a baby too.  So I take a look out towards the front of my house, and across the street there's a girl with her little daughter sitting on the front porch of her friend's house, trying to have friend open the door for her.  Nope, that ain't happening.  And mind you, it's cold out, the girl's hopping around with a cast on her foot , and the baby's crying.  No way am I letting this happen.  I can't stand to see a little kid outside crying in the cold like that.  So I go down there with my phone...maybe if she calls her friend, she'll open the door. Maybe.

So, like I said, I went across the street to let her use my phone.  The baby was so cute...and so cold.  Her mom couldn't pick her up, because she was in the car seat, and she was having back problems...so I did.  Her "friend" didn't want her there, and this girl didn't have anywhere else to go.  So I brought her and the baby up to our house...just to get warm and so she could make some phone calls to her friends.  So I helped her carry her stuff up to our porch...poor girl was on crutches--she just had surgery on her foot.  I felt so bad for her...eventually, she got someone to take her daughter...but not her--I guess they wouldn't take her because...I dunno.  I didn't pry into this girl's private life...none of my business.  She was at my house for most of the day today...she eventually went with one of her other friends.  Almost the whole time she was here, she and I were talking about this and that...and she was crying a lot.  Mainly because she thought her baby was going to be taken away from her.  I kept reassuring her that everything was going to be ok, but I felt sooo bad...I can't imagine going through that.  When she left, I made sure she had my phone number to update me on how she's doing.  Wow, I had a fun day.

Did I mention I'm getting sick??

Saturday Six #80

This week's Saturday Six...

1. How many products throughout your home are labelled "antibacterial"?

Believe it or not, nothing.

2. As a general rule, and assuming any required knocking on wood, how often do you get anything more serious than a sniffle or mild cold?

For me, that's VERY rare...I think the last time I was really sick was about 2 years ago.  Joey, on the other hand, gets sick about once every other month.  I guess opposites attract...

3. John Scalzi ran
this story about research that suggests the increased use of "antibacterial" products aren't necessary for people who are generally healthy, and might be causing the creation of "superbugs" that are resistant to antibiotics.  Are you more likely to avoid these products after reading about studies like this?

Not really...I don't even look at what I'm buying and I avoid them (if that makes sense), I guess.

4. Take this
quiz:  Will you pass the U.S. Citizenship Test?

You Passed the US Citizenship Test

Congratulations - you got 10 out of 10 correct!

5. Now that the gas prices have dropped just a little (but nowhere near enough), what's the most you've paid for a gallon of gas so far?

I can't remember...I think it was $3.59.

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #76 from
Psychfun:   What was your favorite cereal as a kid?  When was the last time you had a bowl of it?

Golden Grahams...I had some about a month ago.

time for beddy bye

Weekend Assignment #82: What was your favorite bedtime story as a child?

Extra Credit: As an adult , have you shared that favorite bedtime story with a child?

I don't remember too many bedtime stories, but I do remember my mom and sisters reading the book form of E.T. to me when I was a kid.  They would read part of it every night...I didn't see the movie until I was about 12 or 13.  I was a little deprived when I was small, I guess.  lol.

As far as the extra credit goes, I don't have the book anymore, and I have no idea if it's still in print.  But the kids do looooove the movie--I think the DVD is worn out, if that can actually happen. =)

...I have to quit my job.  Not right this minute, but soon.  I knew I had to quit because of the schedule, but this just confirms it.  Right now, I work the latest shift they have, 3-11pm.  As of November 13th, the latest the office will be open is 8pm.  Meaning the latest I would start is noon.  I mean, it's hard for Joey to find a job outside the hours I have now...imagine how much worse it will be once these new shifts kick in.  You thought I was kicking myself in the ass before...I think I need my foot surgically removed now.  Not only that, but even if we didn't have to work opposite schedules, someone would have to be home to (a)take the kids to school, at different times, and (b)pick them up.  That's not gonna be easy.  Oh well...I know what I'll be doing during my vacation...classifieds, here I come.

saturday six #79

Here's my answers to this week's Saturday Six!

1. Who was the last person you send flowers to?  Who was the last person to send you flowers?

The last person I sent flowers to was Joey's mom for either her b'day or Mothers' Day...I can't remember.  The last time someone sent flowers to me was when I was still in high school...a dozen long-stemmed red roses...awwww.

2. What is your favorite single piece of furniture in your home and why?

My bed, because that's where I sleep, silly!

3. You are given the chance to model clothing in a catalog.  What type of clothing would you most want to model and why?

I would say flare jeans and a long top, because I like them.  As far as a designer, I have no idea.

4. Take this quiz:  What is your "power color?"

Your Power Color Is Magenta At Your Highest:

You energize yourself and push others to suceed.

At Your Lowest:

You feel frustrated and totally overwhelmed.

In Love:

You are suprised by who you attract. You're a love magnet.

How You're Attractive:

Open and free spirited, people want to explore the world with you.

Your Eternal Question:

"What is my next source of inspiration?"
What's Your Power Color?

5. What product are you mostly likely to buy in bulk?  Have you figured out whether you actually are saving money by doing so?

Right now, I haven't been buying anything in bulk, but when I do, it's usually pet food.  And I think I do save on it by buying bulk.

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #75 from Mortimer:  Now that winter is approaching, what is your ultimate comfort food? What guilty pleasure do you eat that is sinfully not good for you but, you can't get enough?

Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Period.

sick day

Bum's got a little stomach virus today.  And it's raining outside.  Can my day off get any better??  Actually, it's not that bad--she's her normal self, except parking her butt on the toilet every once in a while.  She's been doing that since about 4am.  Dad got up with her, and he's been up since.  I have to give him loads of credit...he's like a stay-at-home dad.  And he's awesome at doing it.  But I guess some things must come to an end...

Anyway, I'll end this entry with today's quote from Bum, while she was sitting on the toilet:

stress sucks

What more can I say...the title says it all.  Not having the car, not really being able to do some major food shopping because of said lack of car, not being able to find a new job (same reason...stupid car), and the number one thing that's causing all this damn worry, anxiety, and stress...money, and the virtual absence of it.  Still haven't got the car back...maybe next week.  Who knows.

This is driving me bonkers--people at work are asking me what's wrong, because I'm not my normal happy-go-lucky self.  What the hell do I tell them...?  I don't like to pawn my problems off on other people--I hate feeling needy.  I would like to tell them what's really on my mind...things I won't mention, even here...it's just too embarrassing.  No way.  The sacrifices I've made in recent months...you just can't imagine.  Yes, I'm still kicking myself in the ass everyday for taking this stupid job--it was (and is) so not worth what I'm putting myself through.

I think I'm done venting--for now, anyway.

As you can see, it all went awesomely well.  We did get a ride...our new neighbor (you know, the one we picked?) gave us a ride up...actually her daughter and friend did.  So we invited them (and 4 kids) to come along too.  Everyone had a great time...especially Little Guy.  The host, Mackenzie, was AWESOME.  Everything went perfect.  Four of his friends from school came, and they had fun too.  Add Bum and Sunny (their cousin) to the mix, and there you go...one hell of a birthday party.

When we got home, he finally got to open his presents...no time at the party--that and he just wanted to play.  Who cares--it's his day!!!  He got lots of cars, a new racetrack for the cars, some wrestling stuff, and his Day of Reckoning 2 for the GameCube.  I waited to give him the game until he opened everything else, since I knew once he opened that, he wouldn't want to open anything else.  You know what?  I called it perfectly.  When he finally unwrapped it, the first thing out of his mouth were, "Can I play it now???"  I knew it...at this point, he's still playing it--and we got home about 2 hours ago.  HEHEHEHE...we're good.

b'day update

Just a little update on the party thing--thought you'd like to know.  I booked the party...Saturday at 4pm.  One more thing...I got the day off!!  I didn't have to trade with anyone...I don't think anyone would have anyway.  My manager gave me what's called a "floating holiday".  What it means is I get a day off and get paid for it!!!  =)  So that's 2 things down, 2 to go.  I don't think the other two will be taken care of, but we'll deal with that when the time comes.  Just trying to think positive that it'll all work out fine.

saturday six #77

Here's my answers for this week's Saturday Six...this week was easy!  =)

1. How many AOL J-landers have you actually met in person

None, as of yet.

2. How many photos that you have taken yourself are hanging on display in your home in a size of 8x10 or larger?  (The print, not the frame!)

Again, none as of yet.

3. How far do you live from your job?  What is your commute time like?  Has the distance prompted you to consider alternative transportation because of gas prices?

I think I live about 5 or 6 miles away from work.  At this point, my "to" commute is 20 minutes (bus), and "from" is about 25-30 minutes (walking).  It's not the gas prices that have prompted me to change, it's the damn car.

4. Take this
quiz:   What decade does your personality live in?

what decade does your personality live in?

quiz brought to you by lady interference, ltd

5. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #70 from
Kris:  What is the funniest, most original Halloween costume you've ever seen?

I would have to say it was the Garfield costume my sister made for herself a long time ago.  She took my plastic mask, and a white shirt and painted it orange and black.  That's all I can think of right now.

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #71 from
Courtenay: What is your favorite paragraph in a literary work?  This might be a thought, or a message, or a descriptive passage which has remained in your consciousness throughout the years.  Be sure to post the name of the book and author.

I HAVE NO IDEA.

New Beginnings

BEST AIM JOURNAL
NEW! Specifically to feature journals created by AIM Users. Since AIM journals are a relatively recent possibility, all of the AIM journals themselves would automatically be "new."

MOST-MISSED JOURNAL
NEW! A journal you miss the most: one that still exists but has not been updated in any way in at least three months that readers wish would be regularly updated again. Consider it the "Best Abandoned Journal." Maybe this award will change that!
Life in the blue Victorian house...

MOST CREATIVE/ORIGINAL JOURNAL
NEW! Outstanding journal that creates a unique experience for readers. It need not be necessarily the best journal in all of J-land, but it is the one journal with such a distinct voice that a reader could identify by reading a single entry. It is different from the "Journal of the Year" category in that it may not be the biggest standout of the year overall, but it is regularly such a special place to visit that you want to come back always.
