she's allergic to what?!?

We're back from the allergist, and Bum has a condition known as cold urticaria.  She's allergic to the cold.  Cold temperatures, anyway.  I didn't get much from the allergist other than that, and what she CAN'T do--swimming (unless it's heated), or anything outside in the winter.  That includes: skiing, snowtubing, sledding, making igloos, etc.  She can have an allergic reaction if in the cold too long.  It's rare too--from what I read on the web, only 20% of the population has urticaria, and of that 20%, only 2% have what she has.  I also read on the web that it might be temporary--about 5 or 6 years.  In the meantime, the allergist prescribed Epi-pens--just in case.  She not only can break out in hives, but also go into anaphylactic shock.  Yay.

I don't think it's sunk in to her yet...and it won't until the winter comes and the snow flies.  Joey wants to move to a warmer climate.  I just want her to be okay.  And she will be...if we just watch what she does.

til next time...=)

  1. Never heard of it until I read your post. Did the doctor said what caused it or just born with it? Hope she grows out of it soon if that is what's needed so she can enjoy the winter season.
    Take care & (((Bum)))), :-)
